Agios Georgios

One of the most beautiful beaches of the island, however, is exposed to the north wind and has often big waves. Before the dock in Karavostasis was condustred, many of fishing boats docked here, since Agios Georgios is opposite Milos and it was easy to transfer here pitchers from Sifnos or melons and watermelons from Milos. This justifies “syrmata” (single-room buildings to store the boats) and some fishing houses are still preserved. The elegant chapel of Ai Giorgis with the small cell for the priest operates once a year in the celebration of the Great Martyr. The beach is accessible by a trail that descends Merovigli of Ano Meria and takes 25min or by a vehicle taking the passable dirt road that starts a little before Panagia Chrysopigi (the road that continues after Ano Meria).
