AEGEAN ISLANDS

Afandou

This large village is not particularly touristic, despite the fact that it has quite a few bars, restaurants, cafes, etc. It has narrow streets with small traditional houses combined with new structures of concrete and aluminum.

Women in Afandou were famous for the elaborate carpets they weaved. Although this art is on the decline, the village remains the centre of the carpet-making industry on the island, having several workshops where carpets are made or sold. In the folklore museum located behind the church of the patron saint Agios Loukas (Saint Luke) you can see carpets that represent the style of Afandou weaving, as well as local costumes, household items, etc.

Info

Above the beach of Afandou there is a golf court.
