Panagia Kalamiotissa

From the balcony of the monastery of Panagia Kalamiotissa you gaze far and beyond the pelago. A cruciform church with a dome, surprisingly elegant for the steep place where it is located, it is one of the most windswept small monasteries in the Greek seas. There are cells with the inscribed building year of 1715.

A local legend says that a portable icon was found on the peak of Kalamos, and specifically on a reed. The inscrutable incident made the residents of Anafi to build a church dedicated to Virgin Mary on that spot.

An ancient paved road, the so-called Iera Odos (Sacred Road) connected the fortified town to the temple of Apollo Aiglitis in the yard of the current monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, and from that point it ended south to the ancient port at the beach Katalimatsa.
