The churches of the castle

Agia Varvara. The church is considered to be post-Byzantine and based on the slub fitted in the lintel we learn that in 1890 a major renovation took place.

The monastery of Taxiarches

The monastery of Taxiarches in Serifos resembles a medieval castle with crenellations, a scalding bowl and tall walls which protected it from attacks of various besiegers.

The chapels of Serifos

Two monasteries, four parish churches, twenty chapels, ninety country chapels and eighteen more, though in ruins today, have been officially recorded and show how strong the religious sentiment in Serifos is. Interventions made by the founders for their maintenance and the service of the current needs during festivals have altered in many cases their original form with simple, uncluttered lines.
