Lefkes

In this beautiful village, which is 11km away from Parikia, the buildings of the traditional Cycladic architecture are combined with the ones that present  neoclassical elements. It is amphitheatrically built on a slope almost in the centre of the inland, at an altitude of 250m. It must have been founded by refugees from Crete and Peloponnese, in the 16th century.

You can walk on the central pedestrian street, Ramnos, in order to reach Agia Triada, a true monument of marble sculpture art. In its interior there are icons of the post-Byzantine period from old, small churches and newer ones, painted by Parian hagiographers. It is celebrated on August 29, on the honouring day of Agios Ioannis Vaptistis, with a festival.

You will discover other interesting churches in the alley as well s: Agia Varvara, built on the ruins of the Medieval church of Anastaseos (Resurrection), Agia Theodosia, with icons and representations of the 17th century, Agia Paraskevi, which is considered the first church of the first settlement that was created there.

Mills, “katikies”, oil presses and dovecotes complete the image of this special village, which keeps its historical relics alive.

In Lefkes there is also the oldest windmill of Paros estimated to be 4 centuries old.
